DSi XL vs. 3DS

Does anyone else see a problem with the pricing on these systems? The 3DS is in almost every way superior to the DSi XL except in screen size yet the pricing for both these systems is identical. I think currently $169.99. Who was the genius who thought this was a great idea? Isn't Nintendo just competing with itself now?
I was planning on getting the wife a DSi for Christmas before the price drop of the 3DS but now I think that would be a waste of money. At the same time, with that second analog boat thingy, I'm worried that they will soon release a dual analog 3DS.
Nintendo is just not making any sense right now. Seems like this is a first where they don't know what the next step is.

I would really like to pick up a DSi XL because I think it’s just a sexy machine. But I’m not going to pick it up for the same price as a 3DS. If Nintendo really wants to push the new system they need to drop the old one altogether and get those units off the shelf. Price them to move and people will pick them up. Make the DSi $99 and the DSi XL $129 and you’ve got something. I would buy one for that price.
I, too, am worried about the potential of another 3DS model, but I’ll pick up the boat so that I have the second stick for those games that require it. It’s definitely not something I’ll keep the 3DS in all the time, but I don’t have the money to pick up a new 3DS. Perhaps down the line, but until then I’ll make due with the boat.

The XL hasn't dropped in price because people will still pay for it. The 3DS dropped because people wouldn't buy it. I think it's as simple as that.
Nintendo does have a messed up price structure though. Why is the Wii not $99 at this point? For that matter, why is the PS2 still cost $99? Weird.
